I always vaguely make New Year's Resolutions, and rarely do much about keeping them. They vary from year to year, but always involve doing better in school and getting into shape. I can't say that I kept the first one this semester, unless some miracle in grading occurs. But this year, I did actually get back into shape. Around the first of the year, I started a new gym habit. But I didn't do anything about my eating, and I didn't lose weight, but I'm sure I was healthier. Mid-summer, I discovered SparkPeople and actually started paying attention to calories burned and calories taken in, and I lost weight. And then school happened, and I gained a bit of it back. But I think I'm back on track again. As of yesterday. If I can just make it through Christmas without gaining any weight, I will be delighted.
I think my other New Year's Resolution is going to be to read more books. I tend to not read during law school. My brain just sort of goes numb and I can't bring myself to read anything after I've finished my reading for class. But in recent weeks, in part thanks to PaperBackSwap, I've been reading a bit more, and I've got a huge pile of books to be read. It's nice to read before bed, kind of numb my brain, not think about law school.
I'll probably make an even bigger list. Maybe my resolutions should also include "Keep my resolutions."
So thanks to LifeHacker, I just discovered PaperBackSwap.
Great little (well, big) site where you can swap your old books for new ones. For every book you send out to someone (via media mail), you get a credit to "order" a book from another swapper. Sign up, list 9 books to swap, and you automatically get 3 credits.
I have a huge stack of books just laying around that I can't bring myself to toss. Many of them have been listed on half.com for months (some for years) and haven't sold. And really, is it worth 99 cents to me that they do sell? Nope.
But the idea of swapping is great! I can get rid of some books I have laying around and get a chance to read some other books that have caught my eye. Already, I've had two books that I listed get requested by members.
And if you do decide to sign up, use the above link - gets me referral credits.
